| Development Internship |
| Our dynamic five person development team is responsible for raising $2.2 million dollars annually. Funds are raised through various types of communications engaging individuals, private foundations and sustainable businesses. Our team is seeking well-rounded intern eager to learn through direct experience the basics of non-profit fundraising. You will gain a strong understanding of the foundations of fundraising here at Canal Alliance and the ways in which we cultivate long-term relationships with our donors. This is a great résumé enhancer for anyone interested in development, marketing, public relations, and fundraising!
Specific duties will include but are not limited to:
- Donor acknowledgement and related data entry using Filemaker Pro.
- Attend tabling/networking events as a representative of Canal Alliance.
- Major gifts prospect research & follow-up mailing.
- Provide administrative support for development office.
- Proof read proposals and other written materials.
- Attend grant making information sessions.
- Research and Outline information for marketing – web, press, newsletter etc.
- Make follow up calls to donors and media.
Qualifications:
- Computer and internet research skills.
- Detail oriented and ability to multi-task.
- Good writing skills a plus.
- Creative, flexible, open-minded, and excited about social and environmental justice.
- Sense of humor a definite must!
- Desire to enhance writing, computer, and communication skills.
- Comfort with speaking to business and foundation donors.
- Stay focused on responsibilities; be proactive.
- Ability to speak Spanish extremely helpful but not required.
- Ideal for graduate school students.
Hours: very flexible, part-time (15-20 hours per week), from September 15 to December 12, 2008.
