| Canal Alliance strives to achieve
Health and Social Justice for community members by encouraging them to
advocate on their own behalf and by improving access to services. Multicultural Family
Advocacy (MFA)
MFA provides multilingual social advocacy and support to thousands of
families annually. Our advocates provide clients with a variety of services,
including family-centered, strengths-based case management; referral service;
improving health access; wage recovery; mediation and intervention; as
well as a job board and application support. Other programs in the MFA department include: Wage Recovery Assistance helps to resolve disputes over non-payment of wages caused when employers underpay or withhold pay from workers. This program educates both employers and employees about labor and safety issues.
Emergency Food Distribution, in partnership
with the Marin Community Food Bank and Marin Organic, provides food
to the very needy
Emergency Needs Fund offers short-term financial
assistance
Domestic Violence:
Dignidad is a support group for women who are victims of domestic
violence and
Respeto provides counseling for perpetrators of domestic violence
Probation Advocacy Program is bilingual outreach
in the county jail to help assure fair treatment and to reduce recidivism
Compañeras
provides birth coaching training to volunteers so that they may assist
monolingual Spanish-speaking women to access life-saving pre- and post-natal
health care.
