Family Empowerment

At Canal Alliance, we have long believed that education is the key to empowering a community.  We place a high priority on helping young people graduate high school and earn college degrees.  We also recognize how important it is for these young people to remain in the neighborhood, to contribute their newfound knowledge and leadership to the benefit of the entire community.  This wave of educated young leaders will have the potential to create true economic transformation in the Canal.

Canal Alliance’s Family Empowerment strategy focuses resources from all our departments on a core of 60 families.  These are families who have made a long-term commitment to the success of their children and the growth of their community.   In return, Canal Alliance’s staff works closely with these 60 leadership families to ensure that they have access to the resources they need to stay in the community and keep their children on track to become the next generation of Canal leaders.
