Helping low-income, Spanish-speaking immigrants acquire the tools they need to thrive.

“I want my mom to be proud of me. I want her to feel that coming to the U.S. has been worth it.”

Success Story – Bryan

For Bryan, earning a college degree will not only improve his future, but will honor the sacrifice his mother made in coming to the US from Guatemala. “My mom told me she came here to give her kids a better life,” Bryan explains. In his freshman year at San Rafael High, Bryan struggled with math and science. He joined Canal Alliance’s after-school academic program and received tutoring and the opportunity to be a student intern with several local businesses. Bryan is currently attending the College of Marin, and plans to transfer to Cal Polytechnic to earn a degree in Kinesiology.

Canal Alliance believes…

that when low-income immigrants acquire the right skills and tools, they can overcome poverty and build a pathway to success as new Americans. We accomplish this through our wraparound strategy, which offers a full range of services designed to help people overcome barriers to the acquisition of the skills and abilities they need to thrive. This process involves recognizing the diverse skills immigrants already possess, resolving immediate needs or problems, identifying opportunities for growth, and monitoring progress toward goals.
