The middle school academic youth program has thirty students enrolled from 6th-8th grade. These students attend the academic program Monday through Thursday, from 3:30 to 6 PM. Half of this time period is devoted to homework, where the students work with our volunteers, who dedicate their time to being academic tutors as well as role models. The remaining half of the time is spent working on an academic project, where a culturally competent-academic curriculum is designed to provide the student with additional skills and knowledge. The middle school students also participate in an exchange program with students from St. Mark’s School. On Tuesdays, St. Mark’s students come to Canal Alliance to help with homework tutoring, and on Thursdays, Canal students go to St. Mark’s to help with Spanish tutoring.
