Fueled by the pandemic and human migration due to poverty, violence and, increasingly, climate change, Canal Alliance staff have witnessed changing and increasing demands for services over the past year. It is with great pride—and even greater gratitude—that we report to you that in the 2023 fiscal year, we responded to these demands with agility, efficiency and ingenuity:

• We continued to provide essential direct services, ensuring clients had necessary support for emergencies and basic needs.
• Simultaneously, we expanded programs that support increased economic security through education, workforce development and entrepreneurship.
• Beyond direct services, we launched novel community engagement efforts in collaboration with local and regional governments and other partners aimed at addressing systemic challenges—such as housing, climate change, transportation and neighborhood infrastructure improvements—that impede the success and safety of Canal residents.
• We have invested tremendously in staff health and wellness, raising salaries, improving benefits, implementing a quarterly wellness day and increasing access to mental health support services. We have also embarked on a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) journey with a phenomenal consulting firm, working as a team to make sure Canal Alliance is a place of employment that feels inclusive and equitable for all employees, a place where we continue to learn and grow and evolve.

To support these accomplishments, and with your generosity, we secured a record $17.9 million to sustain our programmatic and operational growth.
