Let’s reimagine the Canal as a climate-resilient, safe, healthy, and vibrant community for all

The Canal neighborhood is a vibrant Latino community in San Rafael that is overcrowded and in need of affordable housing and more recreational space. Climate change is already causing major impacts to our neighborhood – sea levels are rising, there is more flooding, and temperatures are spiking. Residents must take control of decisions about what investments and tradeoffs our community needs to ensure a safe and healthy future for our families.

We are creating a Neighborhood Vision Plan for the Canal

A Neighborhood Vision Plan will allow Canal residents to define their own assets, needs, and priorities. This plan will be a guide that we can use to direct investments from government, philanthropy, and private businesses.  

Join the Canal Resident Advisory Committee

You are an expert in your own community, and you can help design the neighborhood we deserve. Join the Canal Resident Advisory Committee to help create a Neighborhood Vision Plan that reflects the needs of the community. Together we can advocate for essential investments in sea level rise adaptation, transportation, affordable housing, jobs, and more. 

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year commitment
• Monthly 2 hour meetings in Spanish (English interpretation available)
• Help guide community outreach and engagement

Eligibility

• Must have a close connection to the Canal neighborhood
• Must be a low-income renter
• Not an elected official or City commission member

Compensation

• $52/month for meetings, which will include food, childcare, and parking
• Additional paid outreach opportunities
• Chromebook access if needed
