Breaking Barriers to Behavioral Health: Canal Alliance’s Commitment to Support the Community
March 11, 2025

Working with the Marin County Department of Health and Human Services to support the Latino Community Connection (LCC), Marin County Community Prevention Services, and Marin County Child and Family Services, Canal Alliance offers bilingual, trauma-informed, and culturally appropriate care, which addresses immediate behavioral health needs while helping clients build protective factors to reduce long-term risks for a number of years. Clients may also join trauma and stress management groups to develop coping strategies like Charlas that are held once a month.
Many clients have expressed that they have faced significant challenges in accessing services, such as living paycheck-to-paycheck, needing to take unpaid time off for appointments, or traveling long distances via public transportation. Additionally, language and cultural barriers often prevent them from feeling comfortable or understood by providers who lack the training to serve immigrant communities or speak their language. But thanks to these Canal Alliance’s programs, and our partners, our behavioral team is able to break down these barriers.
We are delighted to be among MarinHealth’s grantees; the agency recently granted $15,000 to Canal Alliance’s Behavioral Health Program. The funding from MarinHealth will be used to support and expand the work of our Community Health Workers who will be trained to fulfill their roles as trusted messengers, providing behavioral health and substance use disorder outreach and education to our community.
Thank you MarinHealth for your partnership.
