Celebrating Sally Hauser, Longtime Canal Alliance Supporter
June 12, 2023
Sally Hauser first began supporting Canal Alliance as a donor, thirty years ago, in 1993. She and her spouse Jim, whom she met and married in the Peace Corps in Africa in 1964, have been steadfast Canal Alliance contributors ever since. Both world travelers and students of language, Sally and Jim have lived, worked and traveled through much of the world, including Micronesia, Russia, Spain, France, and Ghana.
When asked what attracts her to the work of Canal Alliance, Sally says her loyalty to the organization is fundamentally rooted in respect for its mission and appreciation of its effectiveness in the community. As someone who has lived and worked in other countries, learned other languages, and taught English, Sally says she is particularly appreciative of the ESL and after-school support programs Canal Alliance offers to its clients.
After raising their children here in San Rafael, Sally and Jim opened their home to international students, hosting young people from France, Germany, and Kenya over the years, one of whom went on to become a US citizen. Given her life experience, her lifelong interest in other cultures, and her love of languages, supporting Canal Alliance feels like a natural next step. “For me, first and foremost, it feels good to continue to recognize and hold in high regard the customs of the people whose countries are represented by Canal Alliance, and to know that I am helping to lift barriers to their success.”
