Turning Compassion into action
February 6, 2020
February is a month that we like to reflect on compassion.
It’s what we see every day in our colleagues who work to support immigrant families.
It’s how we feel about those who have to make difficult and brave decisions to create a better future for their loved ones.
It’s what we experience from the generosity of donors and partners like you who are committed to making Marin a place where everyone has the right to achieve their dreams.
Yet we see a tremendous lack of compassion from our administration, which continues to wage war on immigrant communities.
Now is the time for all of us to turn compassion into action. It’s in these most challenging times that we need our neighbors, our allies and our friends to take action: Volunteer. Organize. Donate. Vote.
Join us in raising our voices to drown out the hate.
Why I Give: Donor Highlight “Hi there! We have an agreement in our family, which is that we don’t get gifts for each other’s birthdays. Instead, the birthday person gets to pick what organization they’d like to have supported — this is the gift. My dad just turned 73 and your organization was his choice! And I am delighted to learn about your work. Thank you for all you’re doing!” – L.D.
Volunteers Building Community Earlier this month, three of our Construction Program graduates answered the call to volunteer with our partners at Community Action Marin (CAM). Guadalupe, Ricky and Francisco spent the day helping CAM volunteers construct a garden hoop house on the campus of a local elementary school. Their skills and hard work were greatly appreciated by our partners and the entire community.
“Because of this collaboration we were able to complete the entire frame of our hoop house in one day! We have other projects coming up- a farm stand build, a chicken coop, and an outdoor kitchen. Canal Alliance construction workforce grads (and even current students) would be most welcome to join us at any of our build events.” – Monique, CAM

We’ll be at the upcoming Census Jobs Workshop this Saturday, 2/8 at Pickleweed Library, at the Marin Latino Leaders Luncheon on 2/19 and at the First 5 Marin Forum on 2/24 just to name a few.
Join us in building a stronger, more engaged community. Community partners and local agencies are invited to submit events that provide opportunities for community education and empowerment.
Listen In: Priced Out Thank you to our friends at NextGen Marin for having our CEO, Omar Carrera on the podcast to discuss some of the most urgent issues that immigrants in our communities are facing. We are honored to have friends and partners that are creating platforms to address inequities in housing, political representation and education.
Thanks to this partnership, we have set the ambitious goal of registering more than 500 Marin residents to vote and participate in the political process through nonpartisan voter registration and education activities.
