Yoselin Mora’s Journey with Canal Alliance: from College to Career Student to a Successful Career in Finance

March 11, 2025

Yoselin Mora is one of the many successful College to Career stories. Born in Mexico, Yoselin immigrated to the U.S. with her family at eight years old. Adjusting to life in the United States was difficult for her but Yoselin’s quest for knowledge motivated her to pursue advanced education, ultimately obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Spanish. After college, her initial work experience included various roles in retail, where she excelled at customer service. In 2023, she returned to complete Canal Alliance’s Latinos in Finance Program, where she embarked on a finance career with confidence.

“My experiences have instilled in me a deep appreciation for the power of perseverance and the transformative impact of education and opportunity,” says Yoselin.

Yoselin isn’t the only client to benefit from Canal Alliance’s programs, which serve to break down barriers for Latino immigrants and their families.

Canal Alliance’s workforce development programs enroll around 165 clients each year; graduates achieve a 25% wage increase within six months of program completion. Canal Alliance’s Policy, Advocacy, and Civic Engagement (PACE), department supports Latino immigrants wanting to take on leadership roles in the community. Our youth program, College to Career (C2C) is one which ensures college enrollment, graduation, and a successful transition into the working world for the students enrolled. This year, C2C will assist 63 students, with goals such as achieving a 3.0 GPA, completing internships, and securing well-paying jobs after graduation.

Canal Alliance’s diverse programs are made possible through the ongoing support of funders like Edna Wardlaw Charitable Trust. Edna Wardlaw Charitable Trust focuses on making charitable contributions that are guided by ethical principles, a commitment to social justice, environmental protection, and the well-being of the world, while acknowledging that the needs of others are universal.

Thank you, Edna Wardlaw Charitable Trust, for your recent contribution of $13,500 for your commitment to Canal Alliance and to immigrants in Marin.
