Denim Day 2019
April 9, 2019
Denim Day stems from a 1999 decision by the Italian Supreme Court overturning a rape conviction. The court said that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped her rapist remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. In protest of that decision and to raise awareness about sexual assault, organizations all over the world now recognize Denim Day in April each year.
Canal Alliance invites you to donate new and gently used denim clothing items. A collection box will be located in our lobby at 91 Larkspur Street, San Rafael.
All donations will be distributed to local community shelters or organizations that help families with clothing needs.
This year’s Denim Day is observed on April 24, 2019. Wearing jeans on Denim Day and collecting jeans throughout the month has become a symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual assault.
