After clients have filed their naturalization applications, they need to prepare for the Citizenship Exam. We are currently seeking volunteer citizenship Exam Tutors who can help clients study for the civics and history portions of this exam. All volunteer tutors are organized and supervised by Canal Alliance’s site coordinator.
Canal Alliance’s Immigration Legal Services (ILS) program directly addresses the urgent need within the Spanish-speaking immigrant community for immigration legal services, so they can secure legal status to become engaged, contributing citizens. We offer the only affordable, comprehensive legal services to low-income immigrants and their families in Marin County.
Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older
On call for at least 2 hours per week or more
Dates and times vary depending on the student availability
Skills & Competencies
- Spanish proficiency and teaching experience preferred but notrequired.
- Good knowledge of U.S. history and civics. Familiarity with all 100civics and history questions students must study.
- Cultural competence in working with diverse populations, includingcommunities of color, immigrants and persons of various ages,socioeconomic backgrounds, health status, and abilities.
