UP! Homework Tutor
Objective
By providing homework support to students, volunteers will contribute to the UP! goal of 100% of our students graduating from a 4-year university.
Program Information (2023-2024 dates and times)
Program Dates:
Middle school: August 28th 2023 – June 12th 2024
High school: August 28th 2023 – June 12th 2024
New Volunteer Enrollment Period
Late July/Early August for the Fall Semester
Late November/Early December for the Spring Semester
Homework help hours:
Middle School: Mon 5:30-6:30pm, Tue 4:30-6:30pm, Wed 3-5pm, Thurs 4:30-6:30pm
High School: Mon/Wed/Thurs 4:45pm-6:45pm, Tue 5:45pm-6:45pm
Responsibilities
- Provide homework support to individuals or small groups of students
- Communicate regularly with the program supervisor about any academic or socio-emotional issues
- Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive learning environment with high expectations
- Sign in and out daily, and wear a name badge when on site
Skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and other volunteers
- Strong content knowledge in your identified subject(s)
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, volunteers and staff
- Ability to work with people of varied cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
Requirements
- Volunteers must be 16 years or older
- Attend a mandatory volunteer orientation once per year
- Minimum commitment of 2 hours per week
- Minors (16 + 17-year olds) must submit 2 references (school teacher, coach, church leader, etc.) prior to participation
- Volunteers 18+ must pass criminal background check prior to participation
- Sign a volunteer agreement
- Commitment to volunteer for the full academic year strongly preferred
