Virtual Spanish-Speaking Tech Assistants (Volunteer)
Overview:
We are seeking enthusiastic volunteers who are either native Spanish speakers or proficient in Spanish to assist students in learning basic computer skills. Volunteers will help small groups in breakout rooms during class time, guiding students through tasks on a Chromebook, using the Chrome browser, Zoom, Google Docs, and email. This is an online-only opportunity.
Hours: 7:45 pm – 10:00 pm
Location: Via Zoom
Dates: Varying dates between June and July
Tasks:
– Assist small groups of students during breakout sessions
– Help students practice and master basic computer skills such as:
- Using an English keyboard
- Navigating Zoom features (mute, camera, chat)
- Copying and pasting
- Navigating multiple pages and applications
- Finding documents in Google Drive and Files
- Writing emails and attaching files
Commitment:
Ideally, volunteers can attend three sessions with the same class. They would fall on the same night of the week and be spaced two weeks apart. If full commitment is not possible, volunteers can sign up for one or two sessions.
Requirements:
– Native Spanish speaker or high proficiency in Spanish
– Comfortable with Zoom, Chrome, and Google Docs
– Tech-savvy and able to follow the teacher’s instructions to assist students
– Willingness to help students navigate various computer tasks, even if not all tasks are covered in each session
