Canal Alliance is pleased to announce that Ulises Zatarain has joined the Canal Alliance team as the new Director of Education. In this role, Ulises will provide strategic oversight and management of our youth and adult education programs.
Ulises is passionate about social equity and views education as the great equalizer to create a more just and equitable society. With over has over 13 years of experience in Community Development and Institutional Advancement, Ulises has implemented a multitude of economic development, educational, cultural and social programs for non-profit organizations and institutions.
Ulises previously served as the Director of Program Operations for Saint Vincent De Paul Society of San Francisco, where he oversaw all major programs for the organization, led the implementation of strategic objectives, and the negotiation of vital government contracts. He also served as Development Director for Puente de la Costa Sur in San Mateo County, where he oversaw all fundraising and institutional advancement efforts. He was previously a Program Director at the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, D.C., overseeing youth education and public outreach programs, and was VP of Community Programs for The Resurrection Project in Chicago where he implemented education and economic development programs and oversaw community engagement initiatives.
Ulises has past experience as an Adjunct Faculty professor teaching Literature, History, and Humanities courses at St. Augustine College in Chicago. He holds a Master of Arts from Northeastern Illinois University and graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University.
