“Entre Manos de Aliadas Poderosas”  El mundo está entre manos de nuestras poderosas aliadas. Esto es una declaración de profundo respeto y compasión por la importancia vital de las mujeres para nuestras comunidades. El mundo está a salvo en manos de las mujeres. Celebrar, amar y honrar a nuestro recurso más poderoso, las mujeres. Y también aquellos que acogen su energía femenina. Me siento profundamente honrada de contribuir ésta pintura al proyecto mural del Canal Alliance.

“Entre Manos de Poderosas”. The world is in the hands of our powerful allies (women). This is a statement of deep respect and compassion about the vital importance of women to our communities. The world is safe in the hands of women. Celebrate, love and honor our most powerful resource, women, and those who embrace their feminine energy. I am deeply honored to contribute this painting to the Canal Alliance mural project.”

“Profecía del águila y el cóndor”. En esta pintura la historia oral de nuestros sabios ancestros son capturados. La canoa es la unión de dos fuerzas energéticas: el norte es el águila que representa el lado racional y la inteligencia; El sur es el cóndor que representa la energía del corazón y la fuerza de voluntad. El continente fué organizado. Los Nahuas nombraron el continente norteño “Anahuak” (tierra del águila). Los quechuas nombraron al continente del sur “Tiahuantinsuyo” (tierra del cóndor) o “Amaru-Ka” (tierra de la serpiente). El oso es la representación de la medicina espiritual y natural, como las plantas, los frutos y raíces. El venado representa aquello que se sacrifica para proporcionar alimento a las personas y es también el defensor y guía de la comunidad. El jaguar es el protector de la naturaleza: El agua, los animales y las montañas. La última es la mujer responsable de sanar y de equilibrar el lado femenino de los humanos para entender que tenemos que respetar a nuestra madre tierra. Los remos tienen la forma de las aletas del tiburón, delfín y ballena, remando en La canoa de la vida. Detrás de la canoa, brilla un arco iris que es el puente donde los ancestros de el Shumash llegaron a este continente. En el cielo nocturno se representan las constelaciones: La Big Dipper que para el pueblo mexicano es el jaguar ó Tezcatlipoca, el Tianquiliztli, ó las Pléyades, la mariposa obsidiana es Orión, la Estrella del Norte está en el centro del norte.

“Prophesy of the Eagle and the Condor”. In this painting the oral history of our wise ancestors is captured. The canoe is the union of two energetic forces: the north is the eagle that represents the rational side and intelligence; the south is the condor that represents the energy of the heart and the force of will. The continent was organized. The Nahuas named the northern continent  “Anahuak” (earth of the eagle). The Quechuas named the southern continent “Tiahuantinsuyo” (land of the condor) or “Amaru-Ka” (land of the serpent). The bear is the representation of spiritual and natural medicine, such as plants, fruit and roots. The deer represents that which is sacrificed to provide food for the people and is also the advocate and guide of the community. The jaguar is the protector of nature, water, animals and the mountains. Last is the woman who is responsible for healing and to balance the feminine side of humans to understand that we have to respect our mother earth. The oars are in the shape of the fins of the shark, dolphin and whale, rowing the canoe of life. Behind the canoe, shines a rainbow that is the bridge where the ancestors of the Shumash arrived to this continent. In the night sky the constellations are depicted: the Big Dipper that for the Mexican people is the jaguar or Tezcatlipoca, the Tianquiliztli, or the Pleiades; the obsidian butterfly is Orion, the North Star is at the center of the north.

Our work contains imagery from immigrants’ indigenous culture, it’s vibrant colors and patterns. It also shows our belief in the regenerative power of women as seen in the depiction of plants and trees springing up from the life force, painted in surrealistic style. For all those fallen brothers who cried and died with the dream of a better life there are the empty shoes left behind. Tears of pain crossing the wall, watering the land of happiness. The girl has triumphed with her dreams, has broken and crossed this wall of shame. Every human being deserves to be heard, deserves freedom, to be respected and embraced, all in a single hug.

En nuestro trabajo se ven plasmadas imágenes que definen la cultura indígena de los inmigrantes, a si como sus vibrantes colores y estampados. También muestra nuestra creencia en el poder regenerativo de las mujeres como se ve en la representación de plantas y árboles que brotan de la fuerza vital, pintados en un estilo surrealista. Dedicado con mucho respeto a todos nuestros hermanos caídos que lucharon por una mejor vida y que murieron en el camino, dejando solo sus zapatos como la huella de sus sueños.

Lagrimas de dolor atraviesan el muro,
Regando la tierra de la fe y la esperanza, misma que un día nos perteneció y se nos fue arrebatada injustamente.

La niña ha roto y cruzado este muro de la vergüenza. Ha triunfado con sus
sueños. Todo ser humano merece ser escuchado, ser liberado,respetado y
abrazarnos todos en un solo abrazo.

Canal Alliance ilumina el camino para el empoderamiento.  La mariposa de la transformación descansa en la fructificación de los sueños que sostienen las semillas de nuevos comienzos. La educación es la base. Ver desde un corazón de crecimiento ilumina el viaje.

Canal Alliance lights the way to empowerment. The butterfly of transformation rests on the fruition of dreams that hold the seeds of new beginnings. Education is the foundation. Seeing from a heart of growth illuminates the journey.

This work refers to the diverse ethnic groups that migrate to a different country in search of great opportunities. In the first plane we see a girl with traditional Mexican dress, full of purity, dreams and hope, seeking to realize her goals. The second plane represents the group of multicultural families that reflect their feelings by having to leave their country. The clothes of the family represent the adversities they ego through arriving in this country. The child in the Mayan mask represents the pre-hispanic roots of Central America. The last silhouettes express the people who had the dream of arriving in this country but did not succeed, where their spirit vanishes in the universe.  To conclude I painted a dove above it all with the idea to​ ​present peace and liberty in this world.

Este trabajo se refiere a la diversidad de grupos étnicos que emigran a un país diferente en busca de grandes oportunidades. En el primer plano vemos una chica con vestido tradicional mexicano, llena de pureza, sueños y esperanza, en busca de realizar sus metas. En el segundo plano represento al grupo de multi familias culturales que reflejan sus sentimientos al tener que abandonar su país. La ropa de la familia representa las adversidades que pasan al llegar a este país, así como la máscara Maya que refleja el niño, el prehispánico raíces de Centroamérica. Las últimas siluetas expresan las personas que tenían el sueño de llegar a este país pero no tuvieron éxito, donde sus espíritu se desvanece en el universo. Para concluir pinto una paloma sobre todo con el idea para presentar paz y libertad en este mundo.

The hope of a new paradise in life.  A new land, a new dawn. And a hope to live.

La esperanza de un nuevo paraíso en la vida. Una nueva tierra, un nuevo amanecere. Y una esperanza de vivir.

Mi parte del mural es sobre los servicios que Canal Alliance brinda a inmigrantes y a la comunidad del Canal. En el centro de mi mural están las manos que representan la luz que se da a los inmigrantes en las diferentes formas, como ayuda legal, comida, ropa y educación. En las manos están los inmigrantes, los destinatarios de la ayuda. Pero al mismo tiempo son los provedores de cultura, comida, sueños, refugio y educación para sus familias y a la comunidad. En el sentido de las agujas del reloj, sigo con el símbolo de las palomas. Palomas que representan la libertad actual, ilusiones y esperanzas de un futuro mejor. A continuación represento a una madre. El simbol de la unión de la familia. Las madres pueden parecer pequeñas e impotentes, pero en realidad ellas son los que proporcionan, apoyan, alimentan y consuelan a la familia. A continuación, bajo las manos, pinto a una niña pequeña que está leyendo un libro, absorbiendo ideas y formando sueños en su mente. Posteriormente pinto a tres mujeres que representan el Presente, el Pasado y el Futuro. El presente que enfrentan las familias inmigrantes en este momento, el pasado que dejan esas familias y la promesa de un futuro mejor. En la parte superior del tiempo coloco el símbolo del Oso de California. No es el oso típico, no! Un oso Californiano que defiende los derechos de los inmigrantes y la promesa del futuro. Y finalmente, un elemento más de mi mural es el tapiz que representa a todas las culturas unidas por la Organización de la Alianza del Canal. Un tapiz donde cualquier persona puede jugar, desarrollarse, nutrirse y vivir libremente. También éste es una pequeña homenaje a los maestros del muralismo, Rivera, Siqueiros y Orozco.

My part of the mural is about the services that Canal Alliance provides to immigrants and to the Canal community. At the center of my mural are the hands that represent the light that is given to the immigrants in the different forms such as legal help, food, clothes and education. On the hands are the immigrants, the recipients of the help. But at the same time they are the providers of culture, food, dreams, shelter and education for their families and to the community. Clockwise, I continue with the symbol of the doves. Doves that represent freedom, illusions, and hopes for a better future. Next I portray a mother, the symbol of the Union of the family. Mothers can look small and powerless, but in reality they are the ones that provide, support, feed and comfort the family. Next, under the hands, I paint a little girl who is reading a book, absorbing ideas and forming dreams in her mind. Subsequently, I paint three women that represent the Present, Past, and Future. The present that immigrant families confront at this moment in time, the past that those families leave behind, and the promise of a better future. On top of the time I place the symbol of the California Bear. Not the typical bear, no! A California bear that is standing for the rights of the immigrants and promise of the future. And finally, one more element of my mural is the tapestry that represents all the cultures united by Canal Alliance. A tapestry where anyone can play, develop, nourish and live freely. Also this is a small tribute to the masters of muralism, Rivera, Siqueiros, and Orozco.

My mural, “The Flight of the Dreamers”, intends to express the expectation of faith of all those who cross mountains, deserts and valleys to go in search of a dream (the landscape and the path in the painting). Immigration is a human right. To criminalize the longing and hope for an existential change by migrating from one place to another is a violation of that fundamental human right. You cannot criminalize the wind for not recognizing borders nor the right to decide where to live. The immigrant provides culture (the pigeons turned into books); culture knows no borders, it unites and illuminates understanding (the sun). All the races taken by hand migrate in search of a dream that unites us universally: the pursuit of a better life symbolized in the shared flight of the same dreams, young people flying together surrounded by the light of faith and culture that provides understanding as the same human need. It is commendable to reach from far and find a rainbow of hope in the midst of a storm of the unknown and unexpected, which leads us to the new place with necessary social services and human support, provided by Canal Alliance. So, in the name of all immigrants like me, I thank you.

Mi mural “El vuelo de los soñadores”, tiene la intención de expresar la expectativa de fé de todos aquellos que cruzan montañas, desiertos y valles para ir en busca de un sueño (el paisaje y el camino en la pintura). La inmigración es un derecho humano. La criminalización del anhelo y la esperanza de un cambio existencial al emigrar de un lugar a otro es una violación de ese derecho fundamental humano. No se puede criminalizar el viento por no reconocer fronteras ni el derecho a decidir donde vivir. El inmigrante proporciona cultura (las palomas convertidas en libros); la cultura sabe que no conoce fronteras, une e ilumina la comprensión (el sol). Todas las razas tomadas de la mano emigran en búsqueda de un sueño que nos une universalmente: la búsqueda de una vida mejor, simbolizada en el compartir. Vuelo de los mismos sueños, (jóvenes volando juntos rodeados de la luz de la fé, la cultura eso proporciona comprensión como la misma necesidad humana. Es encomendable llegar desde lejos y encontrar un arco iris de esperanza en medio de una tormenta de lo desconocido e inesperado, que nos lleva al nuevo lugar con los servicios sociales y el apoyo humano necesarios, proporcionados por Canal Alliance. Etonceses, en nombre de todos los inmigrantes como yo, les agradezco.

Para esta pintura, estoy profundamente inspirada en la misión de Canal Alliance. Empoderar y apoyar a los inmigrantes motivados y sus familias para satisfacer mejor todas sus necesidades, desde poner comida en la mesa hasta graduarse de la universidad.  Mi pintura se basa en el concepto de cría cooperativa, un sistema social practicado por alguna ave. Especies donde la descendencia recibe cuidados no sólo de sus padres sino también de miembros de la comunidad. El nido de los pájaros descansa de forma segura en un entorno abundante, vibrante y nutritivo diseñado para apoyar el éxito de una generación más joven.

For this painting, I am deeply inspired by Canal Alliance’s vision to “empower and support motivated immigrants and their families to best meet all of their needs –from putting food on the table to graduating from college.” My painting is based on the concept of cooperative breeding, a social system practiced by some bird species where the offspring receive care not only from their parents but also from community members. The birds’ nest rests securely in an abundant,  vibrant, and nourishing setting designed to support the success of a younger generation.

Para aquellos que han emigrado a Estados Unidos para una vida mejor, los logros que son los más buscados son lograr una educación, proveer a la familia, aprender la lenguaje, y en última instancia, convertirse en ciudadanos. Las mujeres y los niños, sobre todo, a menudo tienen las mismas oportunidades en sus países de origen como lo harían en los EE. UU. La imagen que he creado representa a una orgullosa madre de dos que estan de pié junto a su familia sana. La madre mira con orgullo a su pequeña hija, que está agarrando los libros escolares que la guiará a una mejor educación y un futuro más brillante. Detrás de las dos figuras iniciales está el hijo de la madre en su atuendo de graduado, que acaba de alcanzar su educación y recibió su diploma. Las estrellas que revolotean dentro y fuera del fondo y en la parte superior de la imagen. Simboliza las posibilidades que el futuro puede tener. Además, tres graduados Las figuras estadounidenses llegan a las estrellas de su futuro mientras levantan sus diplomas con orgullo.

For those who have immigrated to the United States for a better life, the accomplishments  that are most sought after are achieving an education, providing for one’s family, learning the language, and ultimately becoming citizens. Women and children, especially, often do not have as many opportunities in their home countries as they would in the U.S. The image I have created portrays a proud mother of two standing beside her healthy family. The mother looks on proudly at her young daughter, who is clutching the school books that will lead her to a better education and a brighter future. Behind the initial two figures is the mother’s son in his graduate attire, having just completed his education and received his diploma. The stars that flutter in and out of the background and at the top of the image symbolize the possibilities that the future may hold. Additionally, three silhouetted graduate figures reach for the stars of their futures while raising up their diplomas with pride.
